He's been an absolute rock at the back for the past 18 months or so. Seems to be getting better as the season goes on, long may it continue, the back 3 of Cress, Balbuena and Oggy is working.

I think he's really benefitted from Moyes putting his faith in him and telling him he's the man. It's a confidence thing. He was too in and out of the side under previous managers- as were a lot of players.
I read that Moyes thought really highly of him first time round. He's stuck with Ogbonna as the keystone defender and Ogbonna has repaid the faith with some great performances.
Dare I say it, i suspect the defensive side of the coaching and tactics is now easily the best it's been since Allardyce was in charge. I don't think it was really a priority for Bilic and Pellegrini. It looks far more organised now. Give the players stability and confidence and they will play toward their potential.

I'm enjoying it very much as well only downside is the need for West Ham supporters to have a player to dislike and cunt off. In past good teams it's been Pike, Orr, Mullins and now they have 2 Haller & Fornals and they would push for more if they could.....shame as I like to think West Ham's support back themselves up but why not the team? Even Ogbonna has been a target for them.

Agree with that, I am really enjoying watching us play at the moment, a lot of quality in the team, I cant remember seeing us compete in every game we play like we do now.

Angry - good! I'm not complaining! I think a lot of it comes from the certainty that we seem to have at the back. Rice maturing into a top-class player, and Soucek's shrewd acquisition, have made a huge difference sitting in front of the back line, too.
The two of them are like the Hounds of Hell in midfield. Run, tackle, run, tackle, run, tackle. Always on the hunt. They lack a tiny bit of quality on the ball as a pairing, but they work like a pack of wolves.

Do we though? Only team to have scored in every game arent we? I actually think we create more good chances now than we have for ages.

Irons - yep, agreed. Fitness levels were a concern in Slav's era. He inherited a fit squad from Sam, too, which made it even more worrying.
I like Slav - I've met him, interviewed him and had coffee with him. Got a huge amount of time for the fella - he's great fun and very bright. But his teams have never looked that fit. It seems to be costing him everywhere he goes.

Re: Angelo Ogbonna

I'm not going to tempt fate too much, given our history, but the biggest obvious benefit of Moyes' second spell has been the defensive certainty that we seem to have. The back line seems to know what it is doing most of the time - which, let's face it, is quite a revelation for our club in recent years (one great year under Slav being the exception). We sacrifice some attacking innovation, obviously, but look where that clarity has taken us so far.
The keeper is key to that, too.

It was the same in the fitness-optional days under later Bilic.

Re: Angelo Ogbonna

Oggy has been a class act ever since his days as a young player at Torino.
He had a couple of wobbly years after the final season at UP, mostly due to niggling injuries and some poor coaching/management (especially under Dracula). But he has always been a very good centre half trying to escape from poor management.
I don't know how true this is, but I'm told by a few West Ham staffers that he likes the clarity/certainty of the defensive instruction he gets from Moyes and Pearce. He, and the rest of the defence, seem to know where they stand (literally) with the current coaching staff. I think some of them were a bit unsure of roles under Drac.

Only Chelsea and PSG on their are foreign teams... amazing.

When you can get all the players in your defence doing their role AND playing consistently together this is what happens........but Ogbonna set the standard for this.

Him Creswell and Balbuena look very good at the back, the change in form of Balbuena has been the biggest positive for me, He looked awful last year but seems to have settled.

Probably our most consistent player this season and most of last season.
I was talking to a mate on friday and we both reckoned he's probably in the top 3 Centre backs in the Prem league.
